Help & FAQ

Smart Content Blocks shows content blocks, such as size charts, care guides, and shipping notes, on the product and collection pages they belong to.

Getting started

How do I set up the app?
  1. Open the app and click Create block. Add a heading, text, an image, or a button.
  2. Under “Where it shows”, choose Product pages and/or Collection pages, and any conditions. Save.
  3. On the app’s home page, under Theme setup, click Add to product page (or collection page). The theme editor opens with the app block added. Click Save.

You add the app block once per page type. After that, new blocks show automatically wherever their conditions match.

Do I need to edit my theme code?

No. The app adds a block that you place with the theme editor. It never changes your theme files.

Which themes are supported?

Online Store 2.0 themes, such as Dawn and Horizon. Older (vintage) themes like Debut don’t support app blocks, and the app shows a warning if your published theme is one of them.

What’s the difference between Auto and Specific mode?

In the theme editor, the app block’s Show setting has two modes:

  • Auto shows every active block whose conditions match the page, in priority order.
  • Specific always shows the one block you choose in that spot.

Use one or the other on the same page. If a block is placed with Specific and also matches Auto, it shows twice.

How do the product page conditions work?

A product page shows a block when the product is one of the block’s chosen products, or when it matches all the other conditions you set together: tags, vendors, product types, and (if ticked) the block’s collections. Within one condition, any value matches. With no conditions, the block shows on every product.

Example: products A and B, plus vendor Nike and type Shoes, shows on A, on B, and on every Nike shoe.

Can a block show on a collection page and on that collection’s products?

Yes. Tick Collection pages, choose the collections, then tick “Also show on products in these collections”. You don’t need to tick Product pages for this. If you do, and also set tags, vendors, or types there, products must match those too.

Several blocks match the same page. Which ones show?

They show in priority order (1 first), up to the “Maximum blocks shown” setting on the app block in the theme editor. When priorities are equal, the most recently updated block comes first.

A block doesn’t show in the theme editor. Why?

The theme editor previews one product. In Auto mode it only shows blocks that match that product. Use the product picker at the top of the theme editor to switch to a product that matches the block.

Also check that the block is Active in the app, and that the app block is placed on that page type (see Theme setup on the app’s home page).

Can I show a block on the home page?

No. The app is for content that changes with the product or collection being viewed. For fixed home-page content, use your theme’s own sections and blocks.

Design

How do I change the look of a block?

Two places:

  • In the app (per block): heading size, showing or hiding the heading, image size, and links.
  • In the theme editor (per placement): image position, alignment, spacing, background, text and border colors, border radius, and mobile settings.

Fonts and button styles come from your theme, so blocks match your store.

Can a block look different on mobile?

Yes. In the theme editor’s Mobile settings you can move the image above the text, change the text alignment, or show the block on desktop only or mobile only.

Which images can I upload?

JPG, PNG, GIF, or WebP, up to 20 MB. Images are saved to your store’s Files (Content → Files).

Plans and billing

What do the Free and Pro plans include?
  • Free: up to 2 blocks, with all features.
  • Pro ($4/month): unlimited blocks.

Charges are billed by Shopify on your Shopify invoice. You can change or cancel your plan any time from the app’s Plan section.

What happens to my blocks if I downgrade to Free?

Nothing is deleted. The Free plan includes your 2 oldest blocks, which keep working as before. Any other blocks are marked “Locked (Upgrade)”: they stay saved and editable, but can’t show on your store or be turned on. Upgrade to Pro to unlock them, or delete blocks you no longer need. You can’t create new blocks while you have 2 or more.

Themes, uninstalling, and data

I changed my theme and my blocks disappeared.

Your blocks are kept. The app block’s placement belongs to each theme, so add the app block once in the new theme. The app’s Theme setup shows which pages still need it.

I uninstalled the app and the theme editor shows a missing block.

Shopify removes the app’s code when you uninstall, but your theme still remembers where the block was placed. It doesn’t affect your storefront. To clear it, open the theme editor, select the Smart Content Blocks block, click Remove block, and save.

Does the app slow down my store?

No JavaScript is added to your storefront. Blocks are rendered by your theme with a small stylesheet, and images load lazily in the size each block needs.

What data does the app collect?

None about your customers or orders. Your blocks are stored in your own Shopify store. See the privacy policy for details.
